No Longer a Forbidden Rice Virgin (Basa)

So, I went to Basa on Frankfort for the first time ever last week, and I'm extremely embarrassed it took me so long to visit. I had one of the best meals ever (rivaled my 2nd fav dish at social) consisting of large diver sea scallops served over forbidden rice and greens. I have no idea what the sauce was, but it was amazing - earthy (mushrooms) and so rich. Yum.

extremely dark lighting + 3GS iphone= crappy pic (apologies!)

This was my first taste of forbidden rice, and it had a nice nutty flavor. And yes, I thought that even before Wikepedia told me that's what it would taste like. My friend got the Ribeye topped with a scallop and smothered with truffle-oil topped, hand-cut fries. Make sure that if you go to Basa that no one leaves without ordering those fries! Add that to the delicious grilled-beef spring rolls and complimentary fried shrimp chips with smokey tomato chutney, and it was altogether an amazing meal. In addition to all the great food, the service was beyond impressive- our waiter correctly guess what I was going to order before I was able to utter the words. Seriously? That's ridiculous.

Good food and a telepathic waitstaff... what else can you ask for?

Basa Modern Vietnamese:
FKS (1-10): 9.5
Pros: forbidden rice; perfectly cooked scallops; truffle oil on fries; telepathic waitstaff; spending time with old friends (thanks for dinner, Wade!)
Cons: not cheap and not being within a two minute walk from my house (so I can't eat there everyday); making me *almost* question 732 social as my favorite restaurant in louisville; worst place to take pictures with a non-4G iphone ever
